3 invitations

COREworks is an action-focused enterprise, but that call to action springs from within. It arises from a grounded sense of who we are as people and how to live out that knowledge as we walk the Earth. Energized by a vision of a just and thriving world, we extend to you three invitations.

Invitation 1

Rediscover

Look around. The world we live in is and has always been a co-creative effort. None of us can thrive in isolation. We need friends, neighbors, nutrients, fresh water and air and more.

Yet, when water flows from the tap on command and food comes packaged from the grocery store, it’s easy to forget that we depend on things like soil, trees and bees.

It’s even easier to forget that we ourselves play an important role in sustaining the health of these living systems.

That’s why our first invitation is an invitation to rediscover your place in the wider whole. From an ecological point of view, you’re not just a solo human, but a nexus point in the web of life.

You’re a breather of air, a cycler of water, a digester of organic matter, a terraformer, a habitat, an inhabitant, an earth steward. You make up and are made by a dynamic web of interactions and interdependencies.

Grasp that, and you’ve got a new way of seeing and being in the world.

Two things happen when you rediscover your connected self.

First you can see more clearly how the choices you make have a ripple effect. Within the web of life, whatever we do affects the whole. A positive action anywhere thus is a positive action everywhere.

Second, you step into community. You belong. Everyone and everything has a part to play in restoring ecological balances that help the world thrive. The fungi in the soil, the trees along Woods Creek, the insects flying from flower to flower, each in their own way bolster the resiliency of the whole. You can too.

Rediscovering your place within the whole brings energy for the tasks ahead. It’s how we root with and for the Earth, our home.

Invitation 2

Repattern

Rediscovering the ecological self often leads to re-examining our values and practices.

Is everything in sync? Are some adjustments on the way? Re-aligning actions with values is what integrity is all about. Same with ecological integrity.

Amidst life’s wholeness, it’s likely you’ll also recognize new ways to express that wisdom in how you live. It may feel time to let go of some behaviors and adopt new ones. This repatterning comes from within, but its fruits and harvest are in the world.

Maybe you’ll want to spend more quiet (or adventurous) time in nature.

Maybe you’d rather shop less, create more. Reach for a sweater rather than the thermostat, take the train instead of the plane, go veggie, or ditch the single-use plastic.

Maybe you’re called to support conservation groups, vote green, or run for office.

Or maybe, overwhelmed by it all, you take it one step at a time. When planting your next garden, you also remember your colleagues the bees, and grow native.

Moving toward ecological integrity is an ongoing process, an ever-deepening way of living. And wherever we start, the beauty is in the doing.

Whether large or small, all earth actions both reflect and deepen the values from which they arise. Repatterning is thus a path of growth, a journey for bringing us toward greater human and planetary flourishing.

Reinvest

Aligning our lives with our values brings renewed energy. Where will you invest it?

Much as a farmer returns nutrients to the soil, we suggest “think local.” Reinvest in people. In communities. In biodiversity. In the soil and water and air that sustain us all.
